1. Westdrift Manhattan Beach
Westdrift, a modern luxury boutique hotel paints the perfect, beachy Californian summer experience. It offers a vivid indoor-outdoor lifestyle with some of its private balconies viewing the vast green, local golf course. Streaming with light and open spaces, it effectively mingles public functions (such as reception, lounge/bar, fine dining) naturally energizing the transitional space. Wooden floors, battens, large sliding glass doors, and soft neutrals are a running east coast inspired theme. The lower level event space is flexible in nature decked out in an industrial style. Exposed ceilings, industrial lighting, garage doors, and huge window walls bask the area in natural light.
2. Luxury Suites, Thailand
This luxury resort is designed to be culturally sensitive with indigenous hut-like dwellings raised on pilotis revealing and enhancing the natural landscape around. The concept was meant to highlight the delicate balance of water, grain, and community, motifs of which are commonplace in the culture. Thus this link to the landscape was an integral point as seen in the veranda like balconies on the top floor that’s screened by wood and nature. In contrast to the humble exterior, the inside is decked in rich wood and gold accents making it cozily intimate. Here, the inside feels like the outside with the smooth transitional spaces like a looking glass to the lush green.
3. Elena + Pony Line | Four Seasons – Buenos Aires
A double-height courtyard style dining hall is designed to be in close contact with the central kitchen. Hence, animating the restaurant with the open fire, heat, and action of the cook. A
marbled black and white pattern adorns the surrounding wooden floor of the main eating space. It marks the path passing through the kitchen/pantry to a lively lounge. The warm Latin American inspired space features fine leather cushions, hammered alpaca silver walls, and bridle details. The long-standing columns pass through an atrium-like space where diners above overlook the energetic space below. It reflects a mix of sophisticated European with a modern Argentinean touch.
4. Fixe – Austin’s Southern House | Austin, Texas
Inspired by the traditional Sunday supper of a typical southern home, the interior redefines the home scene with modern and vintage elements. The gold accent walls are a prominent feature adorned with antique plates like picture frames along with artisan objects and repurposed materials. A wood screened porch cuts across the restaurant core nesting an open flexible space alongside an open kitchen and bar. Rustic, handcrafted details color the room. This creates an atmosphere of an intimate, bustling farmhouse especially with a traditional Breezeway in place.
5. Museum Cafe, The Art Museum of Chicago
Taking on a playful route, this spacious modern cafe leads its guests via a bold unraveling ribbon, sprawled 3 dimensionally from the floors to the walls! Staying true to the theme of discovering art in this historic museum, this concept celebrates art and food in a new way. The occasional geometric and red spikes across the wall excite this crisp bright, open space that hosts its eating, lounging, and courtyard functions.
6. Four Seasons | Sao Paulo
Scoring as a finalist for the ‘Interior Design Best of Year Awards 2019’, EDG’s classic take on gastronomical hubs include contextualizing elements found in the culture. Brazil’s prominent metropolis is teeming with diversity, the restaurant uniquely redefining Italian cuisine with bold Brazilian flavors. This is celebrated in the design making it a natural yet modern, elegant space. The mezzanine level hanging over the central marbled bar offers the users views into the open premise thus partaking in the action above or below. The high ceilings are brought to one’s attention with the perforated metal facade encasing an outdoor dining terrace. A charming Brazilian wood lattice wall offers a delightful break in the facade.
7. Elements + Shisha Terrace | Four Seasons – Doha, Qatar
An exclusive dining experience takes on the four elements: earth, fire, water, and air, a concept never before seen in Doha. The Shisha Terrace designed is a cultured lounge rich in its Arabic architectural motifs such as the layered natural woods, lovely textured walls, perforated partitions, majlis style seating, traditional art, and fabrics. Overlooking the waterfront and vast skyline, heat controlled, floor to ceiling glass doors provide unobstructed views. This warm, intimate yet luxuriously modern interior enhances the overall authentic and aromatic Arab cuisine.
8. Hilton Anatole | Dallas, Texas
EDG reinvented a whopping 3100 sq ft area, a 1970’s atrium in the heart of downtown, Dallas into an invigorating public space. With an intention to revive the urban resort, an Asian style garden was planned with strategically placed walkways, water features, and landscaping that seamlessly divides the space. This creates a lively ambiance along with the glow of the warm wooden interiors, partitions, and kinetic sculptures overhead. The lounging varies from open seating along with the landscaping features to a more private yet open seating nested within the wood-framed structures. This creates an intimate yet active space that invites the users to relax, talk, and drink.
9. Farmstead Restaurant, Long Meadow Ranch | St. Helena, California
This farm-style restaurant is a focal point in Long Meadow ranch for the locals with its fresh delivery on local produce. This kind of authenticity reflects in its design of an open central kitchen together with a fireplace, bar, and wine pantry. Further extending to a patio, there is a natural transition from the rustic interior to the breezy outdoors. A rugged granite surface graces the bar top contrasting the repurposed redwood used from the site which panels the interior. A part of the charm is the exposed farmhouse ceiling with its single bulb lighting invoking a true southern atmosphere.
10. Neon Pigeon | Singapore
To complement the raw youthful energy of this Singapore social hub, a modern grungy Izayaka concept was employed by EDG. The edgy neon street aesthetic, symbolic of cities like Tokyo was combined with traditional Japanese decor and wood. Exposed ceilings, brick walls, splattered artworks, rough concrete, steel frame, floor to ceiling glass windows, and woodworks inform the scene with an authentic, city-style vibe. Seating varies from low tables to high cocktail standing bars which help diversify an unforgettable night out. Thus the interior architecture informs the artistic language of cities effectively through a mix of urban city paraphernalia.
11. Andaz Scottsdale | Scottsdale, Arizona
The Arizonian desert, the old west with its rocky desert terrain has long been an inspiration for the palette and backdrop of many artists. This emphasis on natural surroundings was used to enhance the mid-century design of the resort/bungalow with its local desert art. In the middle of Scottsdale, this 23 acre, 185-bungalow desert retreat oversees the scenic view of Camelback Mountain. The design draws influences from the artists, architects, and graphic designers of the 1950’s desert art scene. Most prominently drawn from the work of Alexander Girard, a popular designer of the 20th century who often created creative interiors. This is reflected in the colorful interiors. The low rise, clean-lined architecture, blends seamlessly with its surroundings.
12. Headlands Lodge | Pacific City, Oregon
The travel adventurer’s ultimate getaway, Headlands Coastal Lodge & Spa is blissfully located on the Oregon coast where a vast beach is met by pacific waves, dunes, and forested cliffs which form the landscape. This local backdrop forms the basis for the design aesthetic – A natural, casual environment appraised against affluent amenities. Offering the best of Oregon-style hospitality, guests are nestled into the warm fireplace as the lodge spaciously expands to the dining and bar area. Furnished cozily in the wooden retreat, the cottage-like lodge frames the oceanfront generously with its large windows. Additionally, welcoming a summer view to the coast through its large corner sunroom.
13. Hyatt Regency Monterey | Monterey, California
Tucked away on the expansive Monterey Pines, this destination hotel’s modern event/meeting space inspires the theme of land and sea with its apt location on the Northern California coast. A prominent feature of this venue space is its soft, ribbed ‘Fin Wall’ – tactile imagery derived from the humpback whale fins evoking a dynamism within the space. To facilitate events, networking, or business meetings, a flexible and spacious area remains in use. These break-out spaces can be configured depending on the user’s requirements.
14. Ojai Valley Inn and Spa | Ojai, CA
Ojai, located within the Los Padres National Forest has had a history of being frequented as a relaxing retreat by Hollywood for as often as nine decades. It’s no surprise as it has a lot to offer from its 3100 square foot spa, farmhouse dining, orange groves, art galleries, pools, golf course, and other pleasures. The architecture here effectively combines the best of old Hollywood glam and timeless Spanish architecture with some modern touches. The new lobby designed revives this sentiment with its historic windows, tailor-made wooden doors imbibing a cozy atmosphere with its fireplace.
15. Flat Stanley | Seminyak, Bali
A West Coast, Flatbread Pizza Restaurant in Bali seeks to encapsulate the retro aesthetic of the 1950’s Palm Springs era. This was the era where Italian-American culture was blowing up in Cali culture. The interior design here uses the timeless mid-century style using medium grain woods neatly delivering a functional yet stylish set. A fun floor to ceiling, retro squared shelving, divides the space holding memorabilia playfully. The clean, sleek lines, geometric shapes, and funky furnishing are all reminiscent of a trendsetting past, still relevant today.
